" Ever since I was six I wanted to be a pilot. I often travelled with my parents from London to Los Angeles on a boeing 747 Jumbo Jet. I was that kid who couldn't keep still, especially on those 10 hour flights, I would run up and down the isles with excitement, I would hide out in the galley's with the flght attendants helping where ever I could from handing out sweets to passengers to picking up trash just so stay occupied.

On one particular flight, I was told by a flight attendant 'come here, and follow me' she said with such a tone that I thought I was in trouble, I walked all the way to the front of the airplane and up some stairs, and a door opened, hit with a bright beam of sunshine at 38,000ft, the Captain got out of a chair, picked me up and plopped me where he once sat, and said..

'Moments like this change your life forever, Dream high and think far and anywhere is possible, especially with wings" He gave me his TransAlantic flight plan, signed it, and ... well that was the beginning of the rest of my life...

To help other peoples dreams of flight come true, and playing a vital role in the development of a new generation of highly skilled aviators is one of the best jobs in the world. I truly love what I do, even if you don't choose our school, I'm happy to help ensure where ever you go you're on the correct flight track "

JohnPaul Trotter

Title: Senior Flight Instructor CFI CFII IGI

How does one end up being a CFI when they actively tried to avoid getting into aviation in the first place? Well, as JohnPaul can attest, when you're born into it, sometimes you really just don't have a choice, it finds you one way or another.

Coming from a family with generations of not only pilots and Air traffic controllers, but combat-flying fighter pilots, as a young man JohnPaul decided to split off from the family tradition, instead choosing to pursue his career in music both performing and teaching. It's through this life-path that he learned to connect with people and to genuinely communicate with them, striving to draw out the best performance and qualities in everyone he mentored and performed alongside. As an adventure-seeker focused on self-development, it seemed like a natural progression to go from snowboarding, sailing, scuba diving, and surfing into aviation. From his first flight, everything just seemed to "click" and it was then that he knew he wouldn't escape it;

General Aviation was where he was supposed to be. It offers the perfect medium to connect with people, help them achieve their dreams, and have a ton of fun along the way! Having grown up and completed all of his flight training in Southern California, JohnPaul knows the area well and shares his love for Los Angeles, aviation fundamentals, and all that the city has to offer with each flight.

KYLE GARIBALDI

Title: Flight Instructor CFI AGI IGI

I graduated UCLA with a degree in Sociology, minor in Psychology and worked, for many years after, as an Emergency Medical Technician in Los Angeles.

I have also coached High School Junior Varsity Water Polo, taught swimming ages 6 months - 13 years at all levels, and have been an on the job teacher at my last couple of jobs.  I really enjoy sharing my experience and education hoping to make the path easier for the next person.

I had always had aviation related models in my room, and loved the Talespin cartoon growing up, and the Rocketeer.  In fact, I remember most of the cartoons I watched as a kid often had someone flying something. whether it was the X-men, or SWAT Kats, or The Mighty Ducks cartoon...you understand where I am going with this.

My father took me on my first roller coaster, and it was TOP GUN at California's Great America Theme Park.  And much later on in life I had the opportunity to be a passenger on a B-17 Flying Fortress.

My fascination with flight had been cemented, but I had tricked myself into thinking that I was not smart enough to be a pilot.  Something about the "unknown", what qualifications would I need, how hard would it be, is it something I would be suited for.  I decided to take three introductory flight lessons at three schools at the Santa Monica Airport to see if there was a teacher, or school that I felt would work for me.  And that's how I met Captain Bret.  I felt supported and chose to continue taking lessons from him, and now here I am, a pilot myself.  I was the person who was holding myself back, when I could have been a pilot a decade ago.

I hope this little bio about myself encourages you to push yourself into at least seeing if this could be a career path for you, or even a passionate hobby.  There's no better time to try than now, rather than spending it wondering.

NORI(NORIKAZU)AOSHIMA

Title: Flight Instructor CFI CFII

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Technology

My journey as a pilot began in 2018. My parents always took me to travel when I was a kid, and I had a lot of opportunities to see many airline pilots.

I have always loved airplanes, and my parents took me to the airport almost every day to see jets and enjoy the smell of jet fuel. In fact, before deciding to become a pilot, I was supposed to go to med school to become a dentist or pharmacist because I wanted to help people, but one day, when I met my best friend's father, a 747 captain and he showed me a lot of pictures of airplane and the view from flightdeck, I was instantly reminded of my childhood dream at that moment.

Then, in 2018, upon graduating from high school, I moved to the United States to become a professional airline pilot.

Fun facts about me: I am a very foodie, occasionally play golf (not professionally though), and am a cafe explorer.

We are committed to providing you with High-safety, Quality, and Fun training.

Let's begin a new journey together!

JOSEPH SANGSTER

Title: Flight Instructor CFI AGI IGI

Hi I’m Joe and I have been a pilot for almost 8 years now! Most of my training was done out of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona. Recently, I have been fortunate enough to come back home to work out of Santa Monica, CA as a flight instructor at Skyward Air. I got into aviation because I always wanted to travel and surf, and figured I might as well find a way to make a career out of that! However, I definitely stayed for my love of flight and the opportunities that come to those with a pilots license!

Something that excites me: Good surf, new places, and new people!
