Hi Everyone, It's Flight Instructor Kyle here, I'm going to help answer some common questions we get asked, so hopefully you'll be equipped with enough initial knowledge to get you flying with us.
If there are unanswered questions I haven't yet got to, please don't not hesitate to contact us via the chat box located on the bottom right or give our office a call.
But this should help get you ready for take off.
Taking an introductory flight experience, is the best way to be introduced not only to flying, but to the school, airplanes you'll learn to fly and the instructors. We considered this Step 1. It’s a taste of what to expect before you enroll.
If you've taken your introductory flight, your next step is to enroll in school with us & take a couple weeks to get caught up on the study materials necessary to start this journey. Email or Call and let us know you're ready to start and you want the home study course material.
A Private Pilots License (PPL) requires the student to hold a 3rd Class medical certificate. This medical exam, maybe familiar to you as a 'physical' is to ensure you are healthy enough to act as captain of an airplane. You don't need a hold a medical certificate until you SOLO which is typically half way through your training. When the time is right, we'll get you set with an appointment with Dr. Mark Hyman, who's located in our Crew Section.
A medical exam is usually 20 minutes, checking blood pressure, color vision and any prescription medication the FAA may deem in appropriate. The Medical fee is usually $199 and is administered by a designated aviation medical exa miner, and can’t be done by your personal doctor.
The short answer is, brand new modern airplanes are pushing over a Million dollars in todays market, and if we offered only these type of airplanes to you, training costs would become less accessible to most people interesting in obtaining their license.
I wouldn't consider it a sound idea teaching a kid how to drive for the first time in a Ferrari, and neither would I want you to when you're just learning how to fly for the first time, specially during your landing training where smooth landings aren't always easy to achieve.
Training in a more robust, specifically designed trainer is the perfect starting point, it won't be long before you fly faster more expensive and more modern airplanes.
Your'e learning how to fly in one of the world's most beautiful yet intense and complex air traffic environments in the world. The Demand to be the best is a strong focal point for any reasonably responsibly pilot training school.
You can obtain your Private Pilots License for $20,000 - $25,000 USD. It's important I stress to you, each person learns at their own individual pace. Learning to fly is amazing, it is truly one of the best experiences in the world, but you're going to have to work hard at it to be safe and accomplished, some may require more expense to master the skills to do it safely. Your safety and well being is our TOP PRIORITY. It’s also our reputation.
Don't get manipulated by other lower caliber schools that 'sell' you on the idea of more attractive prices, You absolutely get what you pay for, Quality and safety should be your main focal point.
I’m going to hand the Mic over to JohnPaul,
Thanks Kyle. As you probably guessed I'm JohnPaul. I've been a Flight Instructor for may years now, and I absolutely love helping others achieve this dream. It's truly one of the most rewarding experience's in my life and soon to be yours. So allow me to offer some perspective through my experience on how best set yourself up for success.
You really only want to approach this, one of three ways.
1). Part Time. We consider this 2 lessons a week. However you decide to take those lessons is your choice, but I recommend if possible, splitting up the days so you have more consistency.
for example, Tuesday and Thursday or Wednesday, Saturday, we're open 7 days a week so we're eager to accommodate your work schedule. Each lesson is usually a 2 hour booking
2) Full Time: We consider this 4 lessons a week, 2-3 hours per visit.
3) FAST TRACK: We consider this 5-6 Lessons a week 4 hours per visit. This is the most intense and demanding training routine, you’ll obtain results faster, but your Saturation level may be very high. We typically cater this more towards those who are intent on becoming a commercial airline pilot, especially with the pilot shortage.
Bret (the Founder) and the rest of our crew here really care about your succes. At a minimum you’ll want to do part time. Otherwise you’re not building a consistent foundation, therefore you wont see any positive results. No school should allow you to train once a week, it would be a waste of money for you.
Consistency is KEY to any success,
Part time: 6-9 Months
Full time: 3-4 Months
Track Track: 6-8 Weeks.
A lot of other schools, try to get you flying immediately, the reason; they make more money off you quicker.
This is absolutely not the way you want to approach your pilot training.
First you can expect in classroom ground instruction for 10 lessons covering a plethora of aviation knowledge topics. This ground training is typically done 1 on 1 with an instructor that Bret pairs up with you, based on matched personalities. He really cares about the harmony and connection you have with your instructor. Other schools put you in a classroom setting and don’t really offer a custom approach to each individual student. We do here, and that’s why our success rate has been so positive.
Once you do some ground school you can expect to start flying, this way you’ll progress faster and have a knowledge of knowledge on subject areas so when you’re in the SKY you’re getting the most out your lessons.
Our structurged syllabus’s will be available online and in the office so you can follow along with that’s expected of you and when the timeline for each event takes place.
There’s actually no minimum age requirement to start learning to fly. Despite one to graduate (17).
It‘s our recommendation for the younger aspiring aviators that you are at least 14 years of age, although we do understand maturity comes at all ages.
Please keep in mind piloting an airplane comes with a moral responsibility, one to be safe, which challenges ones personality in many of the skills necessary to be a pilot, including but not limited to, in task management, awareness and perspective and this is usally correlated to maturity.
Typically if your have a drivers permit, you’ll have a foundation on maturity to pilot an airplane.
